Washington County District
Recruiting Season Is Upon Us!
This is a busy time of year – getting flyers put together, putting up yard signs and posters, and doing boy talks at schools. It’s important to get some momentum going for your pack to recruit new Cub Scouts, and especially new Tiger Cubs for your pack! In addition to recruitment material, I am always willing to help you plan your plan of attack for your recruitment strategy. We have flyers that are pre-approved by the Washington County School District, so it’s important that you use those from the Mason-Dixon Council. I can make custom posters and yard signs too, so be sure to ask for help. We also have welcome packets for new families – they have all the critical pieces of information bundled into one neat folder that you can customize for your Pack, and allow you to hand your new parents a polished orientation packet.
One point I can’t emphasize enough is that if you hand an application to join to a family, make sure you get it back that night. If they bring it home, it becomes less likely that they will return with it. It’s a matter of closing the deal – and when the parents make a commitment to fill out the application at your open house; they are more likely to follow through with membership in your Cub Scout pack. Plus, the boy and his family are covered by our insurance policy, can be recorded in our advancement system, and are eligible to participate in all of those great fall activities that the Mason-Dixon council is hosting, including Cub Hike Club, the fall Cub Extravaganza, and Webelos Woods at Camp Sinoquipe. Finally, they get a great gift! All new Cub Scouts will receive a light-up yo-yo with receipt of your application. I can sign those yo-yos out to you if you stop by the council office.

Help Planning Meetings
If you’re at a loss for what to do at your next Cub Scout den meeting, the Scouts maintain a great resource that can help you out! It’s called Scoutsource, and is a resource for new and returning leaders to help them with their planning and implementation of the Scouting program. There are meeting-by-meeting outlines for you to use for every rank, whether you’re doing your first “Go see it” as a Tiger Cub leader, or you’re guiding the Webelos on their quest to earn their Arrow of Light.
