District Executives Corner
The scouting year is just beginning as our Packs, Troops, and Crews are powering back up for the fall. I hope that everyone had a enjoyable summer with time to relax and get away for a spell before the start of school and everything that scouting bring in the fall. Though membership is currently up in the council by almost 4% from this time last year we cannot use that as an excuse to take it easy this fall. Every youth should have an opportunity to be in the scouting program for the benefits that it has to offer. For any unit that does not have their school night scheduled, please make sure to put one on your calendars as soon as possible and let the Council Office know so we can get a boy talk scheduled.
Also with fall comes Popcorn and the opportunity for scouts and units to earn money for the upcoming year to help pay for awards, camping events, and supplies. 33% of all money earned from selling Popcorn stays with the units and that is 33% less that comes out of parents and leaders personal pockets. I strongly encourage each unit to sell popcorn for the benefits that come with it, as well as the exciting now flavors, bacon ranch, buffalo, and jalapeño cheddar!
Lastly, this will be finally chatter article for the Mason-Dixon Council. It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve as a Commissioned Scouter here for the past two and a half years. Though I am not from this area, I have considered it my home in January 2011 and have come to love Camp Sinoquipe like so many scouts and leaders have over the past 65 years. My departure is bittersweet, but as scouting continues to be my life and career I could not pass up the opportunity that lay before me. Be the time most are reading this article I will have already started as the District Executive for the Delhanna District in the Baden Powell Council out of Binghamton, NY. This is an exciting and important move for my wife Jess and I, not just for the opportunity for me, but also moving to the area where Jess grew up. Thank you to everyone for your friendship and being a part of scouting.
